House OK's Bill For Cell Phone Ban
The Massachusetts State House of Representatives gave the green light on a bill that would authorize police officers to pull over drivers found talking on cell phones that aren't hands-free. The fine for a driver's first offense would be $100, and their insurance company would impose a $600 surcharge. The bill still needs approval by the senate and Gov. Duval Patrick, who has said that he currently supports limiting unsafe driving habits but would like to read the bill in its entirety. Hands-free devices, pagers, audio systems, and emergency calls are exempt from the bill.
